Michelle Rodriguez is back for 'Fast Six'

From the moment we were teased during a mid-credits scene in Fast Five, Michelle Rodriguez will be returning to her role as Letty in Fast and the Furious 6 (Fast Six), which begins production in Europe next month.  In addition to Michelle Rodriguez, whose role was confirmed by Variety, Fast and the Furious 6 will feature returning actors from Fast Five like Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Jordana Brewster and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson – with familiar supporting cast such as Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Sung Kang and Gal Gadot as possibilities.

In recent news, rumors have emerged on possible casting roles, in the form of Gina Carano, Luke Evans and Rihanna? There had been rumors on Jason Statham as the potential villain, but since he is no longer available, Luke Evans might take up the villain role.

This will be the sixth installment of Fast and the Furious movie and it will follow Fast Five a little further down the road.  Universal chairman Adam Fogelson stated the following to Deadline in a recent interview:
“The question putting ‘Fast Five’ and ‘Fast Six’ together for us was: Can we take it out of being a pure car culture movie and into being a true action franchise in the spirit of those great heist films made 10 or 15 years ago?”
Here is the logic behind that move, according to Fogelson:
“So if these movies were still about street racing, there was probably a ceiling on how many people would buy tickets. We wanted to see if we could raise it out of about racing and make car driving ability just a part of the movie, like those great chases in ‘The French Connection’, ‘The Bourne Identity’, ‘The Italian Job’.”
Seems like street car racing is merely part of the show, rather than the main attraction.

Vin Diesel Confirms "Fast and Furious 6 and 7"

Fast Five left the door open during the mid-credits scene which has been expected to take place in Europe.  Also the possibility to see the return of certain characters from previous installments in the series.

Vin Diesel, star and a producer of Universal’s franchise 'Fast and Furious', said during the planning process of the new movie, the Fast and Furious creative team (director Justin Lin and screenwriter Chris Morgan) realized that they would need a seventh movie for their story. The sixth and seventh are being written simultaneously.  With (up in the air) rumors to feature Jason Statham to the cast in the upcoming movies, would be a great addition to the film. Again, they are just rumors, but I am anxious to find out in future news on the Fast and Furious series!

Here is what Diesel told THR:
“With the success of ['Fast Five'], and the inclusion of so many characters, and the broadening of scope, when we were sitting down to figure out what would fit into the real estate of number six, we didn’t have enough space… We have to pay off this story, we have to service all of these character relationships, and when we started mapping all that out it just went beyond 110 pages. The studio said, ‘You can’t fit all that story in one damn movie!’”
Fast and Furious 6 is stated to hit U.S. theaters on May 24th, 2013, expect to hear more about both films over the upcoming months.
“It’s not about the action and the cars, which initially appealed to me when I was 25 years old,” said Walker. “Because if that’s all it was, it would have fallen off a long time ago.”
