‘Days of Future Past’ Title for the X-Men: First Class Sequel?

With X-Men: First Class officially on the way, due in theaters on July 18, 2014, with the cast and director Matthew Vaughn all expected to return for the sequel, there is news going around that that 20th Century Fox has reached out to the MPAA to secure a title for the 'X-Men First Class' forthcoming sequel

Now if this news update appears true, that title is going to send a wave of explosion of geek excitement across the world.  If you're an X-Men fan, you know this goes directly into Marvel Universe, which remains to be one of the most famous and amazing X-Men story lines of all time.

The title “Days of Future Past” is taken from the two-issue Uncanny X-Men comic book storyline written in 1981 by legendary X-Men writer/artist team Chris Claremont and John Byrne.  In the story, the X-Men are trying to stop the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants (led by Mystique) from killing an anti-mutant political figure named Senator Robert Kelly. This pivotal event creates a separate timeline in which the X-Men fail to stop the Kelly assassination, and as a result, mutants are hunted, imprisoned and exterminated by humanity. One X-Man (Terminator-style future dystopia) manages to travel back in time and warn the present day X-Men, who ultimately stop the assassination. Not to mention, 'Days of Future Past', mutant-killing Sentinel robots, an older version of Wolverine and more. Which all would be awesome to watch on the big screenAnd I might be on a height of excitement here but this plot could also open the door for the franchise to introduce time-hopping X-Men like Bishop or Cable to the mix.

'Days of Future Past' is an awesome story alone and would help welcome anything that could straighten out the continuity of the movie. Meaning this could give 20th Century Fox new options on how to approach upcoming X-Men films.

Release Date: July 18, 2014

Director Matthew Vaughn will return to direct the sequel of his critically acclaimed X-Men: First Class.  It has been stated that 20th Century Fox has reportedly  closed a deal with Matthew Vaughn and the film will be produced by X-Men film franchise stalwart, Bryan Singer.

Here is the article over at Deadline, where 20th Century Fox production president, revealed that the studio closed the deal with director Matthew Vaughn to direct a sequel to his critically acclaimed film X-Men: First Class.

"Fox has just closed a deal with Matthew Vaughn to come back and direct the sequel to X-Men: First Class, with Simon Kinberg writing the script and Bryan Singer back as producer."

So far this is all the news we have since yesterday, official title of the movie is still pending, but I will keep this updated as more information comes forward.  Excited about this, X-Men: First Class was epic! Anticipation for the sequel will only rise.

There is no official production timeline yet, but McAvoy and Fassbender are already locked to return as the youthful versions of Charles Xavier/Professor X and Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto. Also, Jennifer Lawrence is in line to return as Raven/Mystique, Nicholas Hoult as Dr. Hank McCoy/Beast – among others.

X-Men First Class Movie Sequel | Lauren Shuler Donner on Future of X-Men!

With the release of Blu-ray and DVD today of X-Men First Class, X-Men movie producer Lauren Shuler Donner has become a quotable woman! There are blogs, interviews and postings of her words everywhere on the net! But I want to share them with you all!  So are there hopes in finding Cyclops, Deadpool, and Jean Grey in the X-Men First Class Sequel? Well, read on my friend and find out.  One thing we know for sure is, they want to stay in the next [time] period.

On The Wolverine:

“It’s much more of a standalone. [We want] to distinguish it from the other one… I’m not sure when we’ll start. Maybe summer 2012 we’ll start shooting. It’s based on Hugh [Jackman]’s schedule, frankly. When he’s available, we’ll film. He’s doing Les Miserables, and then he has to come and train for us. So it’s all dependent on him.” HitFix

On Deadpool:

“We’re working on getting it ready, and presenting some things to the studio, cause we’re gonna give it a little bit of a different look. It’s a different kind of movie. If you know Deadpool… it’s true to Deadpool. So you know, it’ll be violent, and outrageous, and funny, and all that.” HitFix

“With Ryan [Reynolds] absolutely. Can you see anybody else in it?” IAmRogue

“[Deadpool] was treated totally wrong in the Wolverine film and yes we will redeem him. We have a few more things to do and then it’s up to the studio to decide whether we’re going to go forward or not.” Total Film

On X-Men: First Class Sequel:

“I hope so. We’re talking about it, you know, we’re seriously talking about it. We definitely want Matthew [Vaughn] to come back. Absolutely!” HitFix

(And on whether Cyclops and Jean Grey might appear…)

“Maybe. Let’s just say, I hope so.” Home Media Magazine

“Well, if we were going to sequelize this and keep on going, we would stay in the next [time] period. Probably we’d go to the 70’s.” Crave Online

On The Hellfire Club nearly-movie:

“Bryan [Singer] wanted to bring another element into [X-Men: First Class]. I had always wanted to do the Hellfire Club because they’re really fascinating. I almost wanted to spin them off into another movie. So I mentioned the Hellfire Club to him and he grabbed and said, ‘That is a great idea.’… [the spin-off] didn’t get to script. It got to formulating who we would use and which story we would use because there’s the whole Jean Grey part of the Hellfire story… I like the whole Jean Grey involvement. I thought that was really interesting.” Total Film
